Senior Penpals

Senior penpals are merely people who correspond by mail, and who are not in the first flush of youth. Age is not really an issue, except that their letters may not seem as trivial as those of teenagers. But again, 'trivial' is a relative term, and what is important to one group may not be to another.

Finding senior penpals can be an easy thing to do. There are many possible places where people express their desire to communicate with others of a like mind. The little contact adverts in certain magazines, can be one source that allows people to get together.

Perhaps it's because older people did not grow up with the excitement of the Internet that they still find letter writing an enjoyable thing to do. So much can be injected into a letter, much more than just stark words on paper, and that's what makes the pastime such a wonderful experience.

Anyone who has read old letters found half-forgotten in a dusty attic, and who has spent an hour or so reading them, will know the joy of reading a letter. This becomes so much more so when the letter is personal; when it has come from someone you are familiar with.

Of course, the very essence of senior penpals means that there is a likelihood that the two people writing to each other have never actually met! But that only adds to the fun. There can be a certain mystique about knowing someone that you don't really know. It's a paradox that we humans seem to relish.

Of course, with today's modern communications possibilities, being senior penpals doesn't necessarily mean that you have to write letters. Exchanging emails, or taking part in a private Internet chat room will achieve pretty much the same thing - communication to someone in another part of the world, or country, that you enjoy being part of.
